News 2004 (Please note that some links may not work anymore.)

  • Dec. 31, 2004
    • This New Years Eve was a paintball event.
      • Some of the Predators went out to Vernon Pease's Dad's old chicken barn.  George, Jim, Joe K., Josh, Jason W., Len (and boys to watch).  Thanks to Vernon, Grant, Blair and another fellow for playing too.  A special thanks to Chris (Pluggy) for reffing and (wearing the same jersey as Grant) to be lit-up crawling into the center.
      • Joe K. likes his new Angel.
      • The barn is about 40' x 80'.  The field & staging area was nice and toasty.  There are 20-24 Sup' Air inflatable bunkers.  The tall snakes hung in the center of the field really help out to make the field play longer.  The floor is sand.
      • Games generally were short, with many players dropped of the start.
      • It was a lot of fun.  Thanks again to everybody for coming out.
      • Thanks for setting up the barn on New Year's Eve.
  • Dec. 25, 2004
    • Merry Christmas!
    • Cancelled Open SNOW BALL* Day on Sunday Dec. 26, 2004.
      • It looks like -20oC or so plus a wind chill.
      • Maybe an Open Day on Sunday Jan. 2, 2005, if the weather improves.
  • Dec. 24, 2004

  • Dec. 19, 2004
    • Thanks to everyone who came out the Paintball Paradise Christmas Party.
      • The ham was cooked in Ginger Ale, and tasted wonderful.  Thanks to everybody for brought some of the food.  It was a great supper.
      • The toys from the Santa Anonymous Tournament were presented.

Gifts from Santa Anonymous 2004

  • The games had everybody moving glow "Rufas Dawg" Practice balls in the dark, with the occasional flash from the camera.
  • Many stories were told of grand deeds & funny incidents in paintball.  Here's a few:
    • Chevy's story from the Nationals in Calgary.  False start after false start, plus almost shooting the ref (missed the refs head by 2 inches) and shooting the spectators with a new and very sensitive Impulse trigger.  He was sure the refs were thinking "Hillbillies!".
    • Darryl's tale of losing his car keys on the field during a Night Game a few years ago and Jim H. finding them in 2 minutes.  Plus Colene (his wife) pointing out that he got lost on the way home, using a improvised short cut (that included Rosthern on the way to Tisdale from Prince Albert).  Thanks Colene.
    • Todd's tidbit of what not to do when playing against your wife.  Angie being the last player on the Bin Field and she tunneled-vision on Murray.  Todd came up behind her, panicked when she moved and shot her 6-8 times in the back.  Not just once or offered a surrender option.  There was a bird involved, and Angie has not forgotten.
      • On Todd's secret ways.  Todd, in a drunken stupor, blabbed about his trip to MR Saskatoon (he was supposed to be working), where he bought a Christmas present for Angie.  So she knew then, that her present was from there, but that wasn't good enough.  He continued to have a thought bubble burst, and told what he bought, while she was still in the room.  No pink jersey surprise anymore.
  • Thanks again to everyone that came out, and Merry Christmas.  A Special Thank-you to Kathie for doing most of the cooking.
  • Possible Open Day Sunday Dec. 26, 2004 (Snowball day).  We have a few visitors from out of town in including: Jason Wingham & maybe Trevor Vilness, plus a few more.

  • Sept. 12, 2004
    • It was a cool day for the "Border War" Big Game @ Paintball Action Games Asquith.
      • There were over 180 players.
      • The new location at the center of the field for the HQ, Air & CO2 fills was appreciated by every player.  MR Paintball & the General's Quarters had Pro-shops set-up.  Thanks guys.
      • The new format with 30 minute sets worked well.  Doug received a few suggestions for next year that might make the games even smoother and more fair.
      • The Red team (General Grant) won most of the day against the Green team (General Kirk).  The last round many Green players switched sides to even up the game including General Grant.  The Atomic Bomb (well over 100 pounds) was dragged from end to end and detonated twice.
      • Thanks to everybody for making the Big Game a great success.
      • And sorry to hear, Doug's house did burn down on Aug. 29, 2004.  Nobody was hurt.  Best wishes to Doug & his family.

  • Sept. 5, 2004
    • George & Kathie, Darryl & Colene Kuny drove down to Chicago to play in the 3rd Annual ShatnerBall Charity event @ Challenge Park Xtreme.
    • We got to met William Shatner, Tom Kaye & Mancow (who is a shockjock from Chicago, who shot himself in the foot).
    • I played the Mobster Mash on Shatners' side & Darryl played on tom Kayes' side, who won this year.  Shatner was 73 years old this year & paraglided into the paintball park.  There were around 660 players total.
    • Very nice fields @ Challenge Park Xtreme.  "Challenge Park Xtreme has 5 major theme fields [which include the Town (all paved), Armageddon, Jungle of Doom], 13 woods fields, 7 tournament fields and a pneumatic target range for warming up. And there is Area 51, but we can't talk about that. "

    • K2 Inc. (who recently acquired Brass Eagle, Viewloader & JT USA) has announced that, "in two separate transactions, it has acquired the assets of Worr Game Products and Innovative Products, both privately-held companies. Worr Game Products is a leader in the manufacture of premium paintball markers incorporating its proprietary Autococker(R) technology. K2 anticipates that Worr will provide a platform for further growth in the premium marker segment, and will be highly complementary to K2's other paintball businesses including its existing premium JT(R) brand. Worr and JT will also benefit from common distribution channels."  Bud Orr of WGP said, "This is good for paintball." Orr said he will remain the president of Worr Game Products.
    • For those of you that have seen William Shatner's "Splatt Attack" video.  This is a great paintball video for Rec Big Games players, parents & friends.  Be prepared for more in the 3rd installment this Sept. 4-5, 2004.  William "The Shaft" Shatner will lead a team against Tom "The Don" Kaye at Shatnerball III on  at Challenge Park Xtreme in Joliet, IL.  Monies raised go to Ahead with Horses’.  For the past eleven years, William Shatner has spearheaded the Hollywood Charity Horse Show which features some of the best western reining riders in the country while simultaneously raising money for charity.
    • Night Game Tip:  From ACTION PURSUIT GAMES EZINE.  I just received this today, a day too late.
      • "NIGHT Games offer great opportunities for unique tactics, such as toying with your opposition's rhodopsin (the chemical in your eye that helps you see in the dark). Take a cheap camera (with or without film at your discretion) onto the field and when you engage an opponent at night you can pop off a few flashes in his direction to destroy his ability to see in the dark. There are cameras you can purchase for $10 and not cry about if/when they get destroyed. Old disposable cameras with flashes work well too, if you can get a person at the local photo lab to get you the mangled body of one from their trash can. Be sure to keep your eyes closed so you don't adversely affect your own ability to see in the dark! Thank Rambo for this tip the next time you see him!"
