    • Important Safety Announcement on DOT-E 12695 carbon fiber wrapped HPA tanks
      • The only tanks that are at all affected by this are tanks made by GCI (Global Composite Industries) tanks with the DOT-E 12695 number.
      • A quote from HAZMAT.DOT.GOV (The United States of America Department of Transport website):
        • "This is to notify the public that PHMSA and the Office of the
Inspector General (OIG) are investigating the manufacture, marking, and
sale of high pressure DOT exemption cylinders made and/or distributed
by Global Composites International, Inc. (GCI), Ontario, CA. PHMSA and
the OIG have evidence that suggests GCI manufactured, marked,
certified, and sold an undetermined number of high-pressure DOT
exemption carbon fiber filament cylinders when the cylinders had not
been manufactured in accordance with the Hazardous Materials
Regulations (HMR), DOT-E 12695, and the design qualification standards
incorporated into the exemption. The evidence suggests that some of
these cylinders were not wrapped with a sufficient number of carbon
fiber layers to insure their structural integrity. In addition, the
evidence suggests that many of these cylinders did not undergo the
complete series of safety tests and inspections required by the HMR and
may not possess the structural integrity to safely contain its contents
under pressure during normal transportation and use. Extensive property
damage, serious personal injury, or death could result from rupture of
          a cylinder.
          "
        • These tanks will not be filled at Paintball Paradise Prince Albert Inc.  You should contact the store you bought them from.

    • It was a great day of paintball at the 2005 Saskatchewan Speedball Championships (Paintball Action Games Asquith).
      • There was no wind, nice warm temperature with the sun only coming out for the finals.
      • The competition was close, with Wicked just missing the Finals by less than 40 points.
      • "Snap, Crack & Flop" move to hang the Flag by Joe G. (Predators) made the day.  It will become his signature move.  Joe couldn't stop at the end of the Flag hang, breaking off the top two pieces of OSB and, then continuing to trip and fall over the wall.  A large cheer came from the crowd and shaken heads by the refs.
      • The games were very tight, refs did a fine job (Wolfpack).  Doug and crew ran a very smooth event.  Thanks.  MR Paintball supplied 2nd place prizes of 4 Thermal Flex 7 masks.  1st Place was $350 (1/2 the entry fees).  Lots of fun and great games.
      • The finals were so close that a few extra games had to be played by Woodland Warriors & Predators to decide the eventual winner.  4 vs. 4 Tied.  The next Tie Breaker is one less player per team.  3 vs. 3 Tied. 2 vs. 2 Tied.  1 vs. 1 and the Woodland Warriors can out on top.

    • I just received an "Ion" from Smart Parts.  I'm very impressed with this marker.  Retailing for $380 (Canadian), it is a great buy.
      • It has "Beam-break" eyes (called Vision by Smart Parts, but they are not reflective like other Smart Part markers ).  The rate of fire is maxed @ 17 b.p.s.  The Ion has nice trigger (magnetic) with easy adjustment.  Good gas efficiency.
      • The working pressure was 130 p.s.i. @ 270 fps.  The stock barrel (with Impulse threads) seemed good.  It's very light weight, with little or no kick.  If you have a 68 c.i. or larger HPA tank, you will want to add drop forward.
      • Very easy velocity adjustment is on the the bottom of the regulator, and is adjusted with a wrench (included).
      • The composite body (mine is blue) is not at all bulky.  It has a nice appearance.
      • The membrane on-off switch is great.  One touch and you turn off the vision. One more touch & hold to turn it off.  One touch and it's on.
      • Easy to clean.  Grease with Dow 33 or Dow 55 (Shocker Grease).  The internals are very simple.  Uses a 9 volt battery.  All mode adjustments are done under the grip frame.
    • Jim's website pick this week is Balzlistic Bunkers.  A new bunker system that looks like a pvc frame with fabric material attached to it.

    • There is a new marker that compresses its own air, which utilizes patented Power Pulse™ technology.  It's called the "EVolt" from National Paintball Supply.  It takes Intimidator barrels and looks futuristic-militaristic.   It uses a 18 volt power pack with NO air tank.  It shoots up to 6 ball per second and gets 500 shots per battery pack charge.  It should be ready for sale in the Fall 2005.
    • SKIRMISH D-Day will be July 9th and 10th at Skirmish USA in Jim Thorpe, PA. Rock along with thousands of players as they pay homage to the fallen forces of the Invasion of Normandy in WWII. Players turn out in droves and play hard all weekend, alongside thousands of their fellow players. There is always a strong trade show, and lots of photographers to make you famous! The Predators will be sending a team to compete.

    • Another tour of the Paintball Extravaganza 2005 tradeshow.
      • CenterFlag had their new 4CE (pronounced For-ce) regulator.  Very nice design with easy to change output pressure.
      • Allen Manufacturing had some nice new products including: Model 98 clear feed port, A-5 Barrel Cover and a spyder sling & stock.
    • I took in the Nerve Tech Class from Smart Parts for the next 3 hours.  I caught the tail end of the EZ Paintball Air Safety Forum.  Really good information on compressors & fittings.
    • The next Tech Class was from PMI on their Pirranha & their new Pimp Kit.  The Pimp Kit which is misleading as it is a complete marker. It was designed as a improvement to the Impulse, but they made so many upgrades (including beam break eyes) that they just put out a whole new marker.
    • John McKown put on another forum but on e-commerce.  Very good.
    • The tradeshow wrapped up early.
